Medical play is just one therapeutic tool that can be used in helping younger children cope with hospitalization and procedures.  In this video, Bella, a 4-year-old cancer patient who was initially highly anxious when nurses and doctors entered her room, engages in medical play with two pediatric psychologist with Norton Children’s Hospital. This play provided a healthy outlet for her to express her feelings and gain some mastery of her fears that, in turn, helped her better cooperate with her caregivers.
